This Batik tapestry is hand-painted and use the ancient 'La Ran' technique to dye the background. Known contemporarily as the 'wax dye' technique, this ancient art form hails from the southwestern regions of China. It involves applying wax on hand-woven fabric to prevent the hand-painted pattern from absorbing the dye. As the wax cracked naturally during the dying process, beautiful blue or red lines appears on the hand-painted pattern, which are called “ice lines”. These “ice lines” are the most unique feature for the tapestries, and no two tapestries have the same “ice lines” and hence make each tapestry unique in its own way.
